  • PENFOLDS BIN 389...

    $113.00

    Tasting Notes

    Colour
    Deep red

    Bouquet
Much more than a first-wave impression of blackcurrant/cassis cabernet-driven aromatics...

    - A second of chive, mustard spice, beeswax, lemon/honey tea and thyme flowers.

    - A third of cherry-wood, sarsaparilla, aniseed.

    - A fourth of wet cold steel and a wet peppercorn tree. All four unlocked, unravelled and liberated via time and air.

    Palate
Full and rich. A custom-fitted generous mid-palate – mandated for this marque. Flavours of a platter of charcuterie meats, pastrami dominating. Also vying for taste and textural attention – pomegranate, cranberry, Madagascan vanilla pod, liquorice straps. This wine’s youthful profile tempered by softened and even tannins – from start to finish. And the judicious use of new oak.

    When to drink
Drinking well now, but will improve with time. Peak drinking window now - 2030.

  • PENFOLDS BIN 407...

    $120.00

    Tasting Notes

    Colour
    Bright crimson red.

    Bouquet
Redemptive cabernet markers - cassis and violet aromas … authenticating a South Australian birthplace! Upon sitting – almost a powdery sprinkling of ‘soot/coal dust’. And, consistent to this theme – dusty oak!

    Palate
Familial kirsch and tomato puree cabernet flavours underpinned by a pan-jus meatiness, cola.
    Beneath – a vinous slurry… sharpening-stone replete with oil, graphite/ironstone?!
Sleek, elongated tannins (not grippy) align with judicious oak to convey flavours completely and effortlessly across palate.

    When to drink
Drinking well, but will improve with time. Peak drinking window now - 2028.

  • PENFOLDS MAGILL ESTATE...

    $218.00

    Country

    Australia

    Grape Varietal

    Shiraz

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Florals instantly arise – violet sits aside a diverse cottage garden mix; a floral bouquet pleasantly spiced with mineral elements. A coulis of mulberry and blueberry. Very Magill! Untangling the oak contribution not quite as straightforward ...a pistachio nuttiness/creaminess (for the purists, more baklava than terrine). Complex. Engaging.

    Palate

Balanced, fresh, alluring. Succulent, mouth-watering acidity coupled with fine, feathery tannins – all in tandem with the wine’s medium-bodied engagement. Cherry and pistachio (nougat) and cranberry (muesli bar) flavours spark interest. This, coupled with cola/chinotto and a beguiling ‘flintiness’, opens a flavour and textural window for any lover of Italian red wine channelling Magill Estate!
